CHELMSFORD SCHOOLS GO THE DISTANCE IN TRACK AND FIELD FINALS

Enthusiastic Year 4 athletes from 32 primary schools across Chelmsford ran, jumped and threw their way in pursuit of victory as they took part in the Chelmsford Primary District Finals, to win one of the coveted Beaulieu trophies. This year, the event was supported by the Chelmsford School Sport Partnership, which is being sponsored by Beaulieu, the ground-breaking new residential development by Countryside and L&Q.

The Finals event featured the finalist schools of previous rounds which has seen over 2,000 budding athletes compete in a packed programme of track and field events. Schools competed in the finals to take home one of the four prestigious trophies named after each phase of the Beaulieu development with Mildmay Junior winning the Beaulieu Rydes Cup and Moulsham Junior School a close second; St Cedds took the Beaulieu Chase Cup and New Hall School were runners-up. The Beaulieu Fields Cup was won by Widford Lodge School, with The Cathedral School taking the runners-up slot and last but not least, The Beaulieu Heath Cup went to St Peters School with Great Waltham Primary School came second.

Sara Robson, School Games Organiser for the Chelmsford School Sport Partnership comments: “Children, teachers and parents alike had a fantastic day and we witnessed many amazing performances from those taking part. We have so much talent within our schools, and the partnership is committed to improving sporting opportunities for young people.

“We are delighted to have the support of Beaulieu so we can continue to deliver our ambitious programme to encourage and enable young people in Chelmsford to lead active, healthy, physical lifestyles. What Beaulieu has planned for their residential development in terms of facilities, parklands, cycleways and footpath fits well with our aims and we look forward to our relationship and sports opportunities in Chelmsford going from strength to strength.”

Andrew Carrington, Managing Director of Strategic Land at Countryside said: “Our two-year sponsorship of the Chelmsford School Sports Partnership is part of our commitment to support the communities in which we build. The work by all the team in the partnership to help improve the health, wellbeing and sporting opportunity available to children and young adults is extremely impressive. The success of the partnership is testimony to their dedication and motivates us to fulfil our vision at Beaulieu to provide an environment and facilities that will enable people of all ages to live a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle.”

Jerome Geoghegan, Group Director, Development and Sales, at L&Q says “Over the next few years Beaulieu will offer more opportunity for sports and recreation through the provision of parks complete with trim trails and public open spaces. The community should also have three new schools, as well as state-of-the-art school sports facilities. Our mission is to create exciting new facilities that support healthy living that can benefit the whole community including the Chelmsford School Sport Partnership.”

The Chelmsford School Sport Partnership was launched in September 2003.
