SECOND PHASE OF NEW HOMES AT BEAULIEU GIVEN GO AHEAD

The second phase of new homes at Beaulieu in Chelmsford has been granted planning permission, accelerating the creation of this highly anticipated new district on the north-eastern edge of the city. Countryside and L&Q have received detailed planning consent for a further 184 new homes and a new park on the exceptional development. Approval for the first phase of 49 new homes was given last year and are due to be released for sale for the first time in the early summer.

Envisaged as a sustainable modern urban extension for Chelmsford, the new vibrant district of Beaulieu will comprise a mix of traditional and contemporary new homes to help meet the needs of the City’s growing population. Planned to create a series of individually designed neighbourhoods, the development will be linked together by an extensive network of parkland and open spaces. A new Neighbourhood Centre with shops, restaurant, day nursery, community and health centres is also planned within the first phase of the development to create a vibrant community hub from the outset.

The second phase of new homes will comprise 168 contemporary two, three, four and five bedroom family homes and 16 stylish one and two bedroom apartments. Designed by the award winning Gardner Stewart Architects, the new homes will be set amongst a series of themed gardens overlooking an area of formal parkland. Around a quarter of the homes will be available through affordable rented and shared ownership schemes.

Andrew Carrington, Managing Director of Strategic Land, at Countryside said: “This is another exciting step forward for Beaulieu - we are delighted to be making progress with planning for this substantial project, and it’s great to set the development of Beaulieu in motion. This second phase of homes is designed to reflect our intentions to create a modern and lively neighbourhood and cater for a variety of lifestyles. We have worked with leading architects to create a distinctive and inspirational look, with contemporary elements, set against the backdrop of the new park. The result will be an integrated community with a strong sense of place that the residents will be proud to call home.”

Jerome Geoghegan, Group Director, L&Q, said: “We are proud to be able to move this significant phase of new homes forward, and bring affordable housing to the development. This is an ambitious development and presents a fantastic opportunity for home buyers and local residents. We want to create communities where people want to live, with the highest quality design and the best facilities and infrastructure. This neighbourhood will offer a wide range of choices of homes for local people, whether they are first time buyers seeking a foot on the property ladder or families looking for the right place to bring up their children.”
