A new NHS Health Centre is coming to Beaulieu, in north east Chelmsford. Countryside and L&Q, the developers of Beaulieu, have appointed Hutton Construction to build the new Beaulieu Health Centre on behalf of the NHS.
The new health centre will be located within the Beaulieu Square Neighbourhood Centre, at the heart of the residential development, and close to the existing Springfield community. It will support the growing number of new and existing residents at Beaulieu, as well as the residents of north Springfield.
Hutton Construction has been selected to deliver the new Health Centre and work on the site is anticipated to start in July 2023, with the aim of handing over the completed building to the NHS the following summer.
Located next door to the Beaulieu Community Centre, the new Beaulieu Health Centre will span 815.8sqm and will house GP-led services delivered by a variety of healthcare professionals such as advanced nurse practitioners. The building will also be BREEAM excellent and designed to be Net Zero in operation with solar panels and smart management systems.
Marking the first health provision of its kind to be delivered in Chelmsford, this brand-new facility contributes to the impressive range of new community and health services already available at Beaulieu.
Martin Leach, Managing Director, Strategic Land and Major Projects, Countryside, said: “We are thrilled to have reached another major milestone at Beaulieu. This impressive new health centre will provide the residents of Beaulieu and north Springfield with primary health facilities on their doorstep. We look forward to continuing to work closely with the NHS over the coming months, to deliver the Health Centre for the community and build on the extensive community services we have already provided at Beaulieu.”
Adam Simpson, Director of Project Management and Development at L&Q, said
“Access to excellent community facilities is an integral part of L&Q’s placemaking agenda, alongside the delivery of high-quality affordable homes. We are therefore delighted to be partnering with the NHS and Hutton and soon commence work on the new Health Centre at Beaulieu.”
A spokesperson for the NHS Mid and South Essex’s ICB said: “We’re keen to see work get underway on a medical centre fit for the future and for the growing community in north-eastern Chelmsford, so the NHS welcomes this appointment. We look forward to continuing the close relationship we have already developed with Countryside and L&Q to deliver a modern clinical space housing local health and care services for our residents.”
Vicky Ford MP said: “It is excellent news that construction of the new Beaulieu Medical Centre can now get underway. The people in the North and East of Chelmsford have waited a long time for this new state-of-the-art health centre. This will mean that the growing population of North Chelmsford will now have a brand new surgery and, combined with ongoing renovation of Sutherland Lodge Surgery, GP capacity across our city will be improved.”
David Ball, Construction Director at Hutton Construction said: “Hutton is proud to be partnering with Countryside and L&Q to build the Beaulieu Health Centre for this new community. We have a long track record of delivering NHS Health Centre buildings within communities including White Lodge Medical Centre, One Stop Doctors Health Centre, and Lister House Health Centre. Our track record comprises projects across Chelmsford including community, educational, commercial, and retail buildings. As a local contractor we are excited to be working closely with the community and NHS to create a Health Centre that is modern and sustainable, and designed to provide a range of healthcare services for this growing new neighbourhood.”
